“We’re having a Wes Anderson inspired Portland wedding at Baker Building. You in?”. Uhhhh, is there any answer other than “HECK YES”?! I think not.

You might remember that I photographed Maddi + Marshall’s elopement in DTLA earlier this summer. They wanted to be able to celebrate with Maddi’s extended family and family friends in Southern California, and they also wanted to celebrate with their friends and immediate family at a more intimate wedding in Portland. So, that’s exactly what they did.

Fast forward to a few months after their DTLA elopement, and we’re at their Wes-Anderson/Fantastic Mr. Fox-themed wedding in Portland, Oregon. As a Wes Anderson nerd myself, this was like every single dream I’ve ever had come true. And, throw in the fact that it was in Portland at Baker Building? I die.

Maddi and her wedding party got ready at Marshall’s and Maddi’s apartment. It was casual and easygoing, and we even got to spend some time with M + M’s new pup! Maddi wore a vintage nightgown from the 1910s (yes, you read that right, the 1910s), and it was magical.

Maddi and Marshall’s first look took place at a rose garden just a few blocks away from their wedding venue. It was everything anyone could hope for from a first look. And, even though M + M had a first look at their summer DTLA elopement, the same reactions and emotions were all there. It was tear-worthy, in the best way.

We then made our way back to Baker Building, walking of course. Their venue was adorned in the most lovely Wes Anderson/Fantastic Mr. Fox-themed decor: banner flags with Fantastic Mr. Fox phrases, painted apples on the tables, a pinecone ceremony altar, the list goes on. I guess you’ll just have to scroll the photos to see it all 😉

After dinner and the most laugh-until-you-cry speeches and toasts, M + M’s guests got down on the dance floor. I mean, duh, it’s a wedding. You’ve gotta get down to some Cardi B, Fleetwood Mac, and old (read: semi-cringy but incredible) rap songs. They ended their wedding with a traditional hora, followed by a human tunnel for their grand exit. This was the Wes Anderson inspired Portland wedding of dreams, people!
